Statement of Organization

The WABA was formed by a group of dedicated, knowledgeable individuals with the common belief that the American Bulldog is a breed of exceptional working ability. It has become increasingly evident that unless serious efforts are made to preserve and cultivate these abilities, the American Bulldog is destined to join the ranks of numerous other breeds whose original purpose and abilities have been reduced to legend. The WABA is the result of an attempt to maintain, as well as improve the working qualities of this truly unique breed. This will be accomplished by offering official titles to dogs that pass a test. This test is designed to effectively demonstrate a dog’s temperament, character and physical abilities while requiring the least amount of training possible. Similar tests have been used successfully for decades in other working breeds and are in fact mandatory in many instances. It is amongst stock that has been tested through these various organizations that serious working dog enthusiasts make their purchases and design their breeding programs.

The WABA is currently offering seven tests, with additional tests planned for the future. These tests include the BST and BST2 (Breed Suitability Tests) and the WST and WST2 (Working Suitability Tests). The requirements for both suitability tests are identical with the exception that the BST requires the dog to be certified free of hip dysplasia and includes a conformation evaluation performed on the day of testing. The WABA is also offering the OB1 (Obedience Test), the TE (Temperament Test) and the AD (Endurance Test or Ausauerprufung).

The WABA has working relationships with the ABA, NKC, ABRA, ABNA, IDI and various weight pull organizations; all titles earned through the WABA are recognized by these organizations. Additionally, testing is currently open to any breed of working dog that does not currently have an avenue of testing available. As both a service to breeders and in an effort to increase the scope of knowledge and information currently available, WABA records are  available to persons who wish to inquire about a specific dog.

This is an opportunity for owners, breeders and enthusiasts to demonstrate their dogs abilities, earn meaningful recognition and acknowledgement thereof, acquire working titles and contribute to the future of the working American Bulldog.
